"Any fool knows men and women think differently at times, but the biggest difference is this. Men forget, but never forgive; women forgive, but never forget."— Robert Jordan

Patrick was larger than life.

Funny how conversations with my kids come full circle.  Somehow they got it in their heads tonight at dinner that if they planted a green bean seed from one of their green beans, a beanstalk will grow - and then they could climb up to heaven. Of course, he and Jill wanted to know if there are giants in heaven, because there's giants at the top of beanstalks, don't ya know.

Totally unrelated, and on a more somber note, Mark's aunt's dog, Patrick passed away today at the age of 12 from heart failure. We're very close to the Boettcher family, and our kids spend a lot of time with them, so I thought maybe I should explain to them that Patrick went to heaven today.  They were understandably a little confused and sad, but I explained the best that I could that Patrick was an old dog and his heart was sick. Then I told them that Pat was probably up in heaven right now, with his football in his mouth, joyfully running into the ocean, which in life was his very favorite thing to do.

They seemed to accept that... but a few minutes later Matt came up to me and said, "Is Patrick a giant now?"
