Ever just have one of those days where everything goes right for a change?
Just have to brag for a minute... here's the back story:
A couple of weeks ago (or was it the week before?? I can't remember), I realized that my retainer was missing - the retainer that I just got in February. It cost $250.00 out of pocket so I was afraid to tell Mark. Just picture me turning the house upside down looking for it, searching the trash... the whole nine yards. No where to be found. Frick. So I finally told Mark last Sunday night that I'm pretty sure it got thrown out and he was understanding and told me to get it replaced. I called last Tuesday morning and they said that they could replace it but I was going to have to pay for it again (obviously) and that they had a cancellation that morning, so could I come in at 10:45 to have impressions done? I said that I had the kids and didn't think I'd be able to find a babysitter during the day on short notice (and Mark was meetings all day). They said that I could bring the kids because impressions only take about 10 minutes and it'd be an in and out sort of thing. Hey, I said, if you don't mind, I don't. I packed the kids up,
Now, if you've ever been to an orthodontist - most of them are wide open spaces with a bunch of dentist chairs all in one room. I was understandably nervous that the kids would be all over the place, touching everything, etc. Once I got there, the Dr. took a look at my teeth and said that he thought that he could do a permanent retainer and bonding instead of a regular retainer and that he wouldn't charge me for it!! Um, abso-freakin'-lootely! I was expecting to have to make another appointment, but he said he could do it right then and there. So picture this... big room, lots of shiny things to touch, an almost-three year old and a four year old sitting on spinning office chairs with no toys, no snacks, nothing to do (because I expected to be in and out), and me, mouth propped open with one of those plastic mouth guard things, so I couldn't talk (or yell!), sunglasses on, can't see a darned thing, laying down in a dentist chair having a permanent retainer bonded to my teeth. Sounds like a nightmare, right? I swear to all things holy (and you can call the orthodontist for proof if you want ) I was there for almost an hour and my kids were absolute angels. They sat in those chairs, and for the most part didn't fight, yell, run around, not so much as a squirm came out of them. They turned on the charm for the doctor and the nurses... the whole nine yards. I'm just busting with pride. The whole office full of staff couldn't get over how well behaved they were. Someone must have smiling down on me that day.
