I wanna come home

Is there any more bittersweet sound than when the phone rings and it's your little boy asking to come home? He was in Salisbury at our beach cottage with Aunty April... he was supposed to sleep over and we were going to pick him up around 9:00 AM. The phone rang around 9:30 last night... and April said that Matt just couldn't sleep and wanted me to come get him. She put him on and all I heard, in the most pathetic little voice, was, "Mumma? I wanna come home!" If I could have reached in the phone and grabbed him, I would have.

April, Dolores and Barbara said he was a really good boy... they played in the water [made "sand angels," said Matt] went out to eat, went to the center to play in the arcade [he won a giant blow-up spider man and a fishing game], but when it was time for bed, he just couldn't settle down.

So I went to get him, and when we were driving home, I reached my hand into the back seat and said, "I missed you Matty." Instead of a hand, he gave me his foot. I said, "TOES??" Matt laughed and replied, "My hand is too far away, so I'm giving you a foot shake."

:)

Thank you April, for offering to have him sleep over, and for trying. You're the best.

He was a perfect angel! So much fun to have and we'll do it again :) And as I figure it, I got to sleep in this morning and you didn't, hahahahahahahaha.
