Matt's Sick

What a week this has been! Thank God it's over and Matt is feeling better. Last Wednesday, Jillian woke up for some reason, I think her teeth have been bugging her... anyway, I was rocking Jillian and I heard Matt start crying from the next room... followed by a cough and a gag. I put Jillian down (poor thing, I just plopped her in the crib. But she went right to sleep) and ran into Matt's room... he was just covered in throw up, as was his crib the floor, the sheets, the pillow... everything. He was so upset... crying and saying, "mumma spilled!" (LOL)

I called Mark up and he took Matt down and put him in the bath while I cleaned up the room as best I could (this didn't bother me at all - thanks to my pregnancies, I'm no stranger to throw up). After Matt and everything was cleaned up, we tucked Matt back into bed and he went to sleep... only to wake up at 11:30 - throwing up all over everything I had just cleaned. Back downstairs he went with Mark into the tub, and I sighed and got to work cleaning up again.

After that, we learned our lesson. I stayed downstairs on the couch with Matt and Mark went back to bed. Neither Matt nor I got a wink of sleep for the rest of the night. Every hour the poor kid got sick. :( 6:00 AM rolled around and Mark came down, yelling at me for not waking him up like I was supposed to ;) and I went up to catch a quick two hours of sleep before Mark had to go to work.

So from Thursday morning until Saturday Matt could hardly keep anything down. He had a fever, at one point of a 102.5. Saturday morning, he was so weak from not eating anything in days that when he stood up he just slumped back down to the ground. I took him to Dr. Harris, just to make sure that he wasn't dehydrated, and thankfully he wasn't, but he said to just keep pushing the liquids on him, especially electrolytes.

He slowly started improving Saturday afternoon, thank God, because Mark and I were really afraid we were going to have to take him to the hospital. Sunday he even perked up a bit, although he did get sick one more time that day. Yesterday and today have been great, although he's still a little tired and we're VERY cautiously letting him eat... things like toast with jam, bananas, baby food applesauce, Cheerios, Rice Krispies, etc.

I have never felt so helpless in my life. How do you explain to a 2 year old why he's sick and why he can't have anything to eat? (He kept saying to me, "Too hungry mumma!!") It was so, so sweet to see him acting himself today. I know it's something that all kids have to go through, but I sincerely hope that we never have to go through that again.

Oh Kell, I feel for you all! We unfortunately have been through that scenario a few times with Payton. If Brian comes home and a quilt is covering the couch he knows why! Heaven forbid if she vomits on my furniture:) I can tell just be looking at her face if she is going to be sick. And it does break your heart when they want to eat... It is scary for them to vomit like that I am sure. SO glad he is feeling better.
