Matt called Jillian dumb this morning. After a lengthy lecture about why we don't call people names, Matt went up to Jill, unprompted, gave her a hug and an apology. Jill hugged him back, her cheek against his chest, his chin resting on top of her head, and she said, "That's okay Matthew, I will always keep loving you, no matter what."
That really touched my heart because, #1 I didn't have to tell Matt to give Jillian a hug and an apology, he thought of it all on his own, and #2, what Jillian said to Matthew is something I always tell the kids when they do something wrong. After punishing or lecturing or talking to them, I always follow it up with a hug and tell them that no matter what they do, I'll never ever stop loving them.
