Cool as a "Coocumber"

From Jillian a few minutes ago (my mother-in-law will love this):

Jill: Mumma... Meema is cool.
Me: Yeah?
Jill: Yeah. She's a coocumber.

Speaking of Jill, last night she had a fever of 102.5 and was complaining that her "mouth hurt." She was pointing to the back of her throat so I figured that she had a sore throat. This morning I tried to take her temperature but she kind of freaked out when I tried to put the thermometer in her ear, so now I was thinking - ear infection! Neither of my kids (or I, for that matter) have ever had an ear infection, so I have no idea what to look for. The thermometer registered at 99.1 (and I'm sure that was inaccurate because she was squirming, she definitely felt warmer than that) I made her an appointment with Dr. H and wouldn't you know it, when I took her in, she turned on the charm and was chattering away, her normal, perky self. Not only that, when they took her temperature it was normal! I really think my daughter has a super-natural ability to regulate her body temperature to make her mom look like an over-anxious fool, because I swear, as soon as we got home, she started to burn up again and her fever shot back up to 102.6. Here I am thinking, damn it! I should have taken a picture at the digital read out so they don't think I'm crazy!

Dr. H. did say, by the way, that her throat looked red so she very well could be coming down with something. They did a throat culture, which wasn't showing anything in the office, but Dr. H sent out to the lab just in case.

On one hand, I obviously hope it's not strep, but on the other hand, if it is strep, they can get her on an antibiotic and she doesn't have to suffer through being sick for a week (if she's just coming down with a bad cold).

Either way, it's not looking to good for the wedding I was supposed to attend this weekend. If she's still this mopey and feverish and just all-around-pathetic (I say this as she's literally trying to burrow back into my stomach) on Saturday, I'm not going to want to leave her with a babysitter. :(
