Part of my New Year's resolution for this year is to simplify my life and get more organized. I've been noticing that throughout the house there were so many things that fell into the category "I'm going to keep this in case I need it someday." The problem with this is that so many times the things I really needed would get lost amidst the clutter and I'd end up with things in duplicate. Vicious circles occurred. So basically I've been going through the house and cleaning out one closet, one drawer at a time. Things go into three piles: Yard Sale, Goodwill or Trash.
It's amazing the things that we've accumulated since we moved here five years ago. Stuff that I haven't touched, never mind thought about. And it's amazing the space that has opened up in the process. I'm finding that this purging is therapeutic and the more I get rid of, the more energy I have to keep going.
Last week I put together five big boxes of kids clothes to donate to the children in Afghanistan. Saturday I tackled the downstairs bathroom linen closet. Tuesday I cleaned out the upstairs bathroom - including the vanity drawers, under the sink, and the linen closet. Yesterday was the daunting task of the master bedroom closet and Mark's dresser drawers. Over the next few weeks, I'm hoping to go through all the "junk" drawers in the office and the kitchen and all the shelves in the basement. I also want to sort through all the books on our bookshelves in the den, and go through the file cabinets (I need to get a shredder for that, though).

Nice work Kelly. We cleaned out our storage room last spring. We had a garage sale (with about 4 other houses on our street) and man, it was amazing what we found. We had boxes that were packed up from our house in Dracut that we had not even opened. It felt SO good to get rid of them!! Keep it up! You will motivate the rest of us!
No shredder...bonfire!
Good job, Kelly! I know you get a "high" from getting rid of clutter so when you're done at your place, head on over!
