He's so good!

Poor Matt... he's always been one for nosebleeds since he was little more than a baby... but this past week was horrible for him. Out of the past 7 days, he's had nosebleeds for five of them. Started last Tuesday. He was playing with his toys and looked up at me all of a sudden and said, "what's this mumma?" and his mouth and chin were covered in blood. It took a good 5 minutes to get it under control - part of which was spent chasing him around the dining room table with a wet wash cloth, him dripping blood everywhere - it looked like a murder scene in there!! So Wednesday I went out and bought him a humidifier and put that in his room and we've been using saline spray every 4 hours or so. But he had minor nosebleeds Thursday, Friday, Saturday, skipped Sunday, skipped Monday, but Tuesday he had two REALLY bad bleeds in a row, one in the morning and one at Janelle's (the babysitter's). The one in the morning he was still in bed and it got all over his sheets and blankets and we had to completely strip the bed. Matt was heartbroken - he thought we were taking his "big boy bed" away and started sobbing. :( We explained to him that we just had to wash everything and he was okay after that.

Anyway, Tuesday morning I called mom at Dr. Harris' and they referred us to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor... I called and made an appointment right away and we went this afternoon.

My little man was so amazingly good and brave during the whole thing. Take it from one with sinus problems who knows very well what it's like to sit in that scary chair and see a doctor with black head gear and a huge light and magnifying glass coming at you with a foot long wooden Q-tip. Mark had Matt on his lap and held him still, but Matt never cried, complained, squirmed or anything. Just sat there looking a little nervous while the doctor did the exam, every now and then asking "What's that?" or "What you doin' dere?" He even said "thank you" when he was done! LOL!!

It ended up that the doctor had to cauterize a blood vessel that was too close to the surface on the right side. They use liquid nitrogen for that, but it's still uncomfortable and feels hot (according to the doc). He numbed it first, though, with a topical ointment, and put some sort of numbing waxy type stuff on it afterwards, too, to keep him from feeling it later tonight.

So anyway, I'm glad that's over with and hopefully he won't have major nosebleeds like that anymore. And once again, Matt really impressed me. :) I am so lucky.

OMG My heart just sunk reading that story...I immediately teared up when you said he started to cry thinking you were taking his "big boy bed" away!(sniff) What a little trouper though. I'd have been terrified myself! Give him an extra big squeeze from Auntie Snoozan and tell him how proud I am of him!
