Day Four of Potty Training

11:18 AM
Well, the pee situation is going EXCELLENT. He hasn't had a pee accident in 2 days. Poop on the other hand... ew He's been pooping in the morning or after his nap before we get him out of the crib for the most part, which is fine because he's in a pull-up and it's not like he can climb out of the crib and get to the bathroom on time. I kind of expect and accept that as par for the course.

But he just had his first poop in the underwear situation. He didn't tell me he had to poop until *after* he pooped. spya That was NOT fun. All over his legs, the potty seat, his shirt, etc.

I didn't get mad, just matter-of-factly told him that he has to poop in the potty next time and it's okay to have accidents sometimes, we'll just try again next time. Then he watched me dump the poop in the potty and he flushed it down.

I guess it's to be expected, right?

Another successful day!! He peed and pooped several more times tonight - and TOLD me he had to go - no prompting from me! He did have one slight accident where he started to pee in his pants, but I think that was because we had my in-laws and Michelle, Paul and kids over and there was a lot of excitement and distraction. But the minute he started to pee he came running to me and finished up on the potty. So, just like my friend Chris said it would, I think it "clicked" today.

The highlight of the night, though, was after he pooped on the potty when everyone was eating dinner (6 adults, 3 kids) and he ran out into the dining room announcing to everyone that he pooped on the potty and everyone started cheering and clapping for him. giggle He looked so incredibly proud of himself! Mark and I are pretty proud of him, too.

Just keep it in the back of your mind that even if he goes a few WEEKS with no accidents and doing really well...he can still "revert back". All three of my boys did this. People would tell me "Well maybe they're just not ready" to which I would reply "If they weren't ready, then how did they go three weeks with no accidents and telling me when they had to go. They KNOW what they're doing". Sometimes they just like to "test the power" as it were. Don't be discouraged. Just keep at it.
