Vacation? What's that??

For those of you who have young children, you'll be able to commiserate with this post; it'll bring back "fond" memories for those who have older or adult children; let it serve as a warning for those who have infants; and for those of you without kids, let this serve as birth control...

This week is our week at Mark's family's beach cottage... we drove up yesterday and last night was supposed to be our first night up there. We only live 20 minutes away so we figured if they didn't go right to sleep, we'd just drive home, no big deal right?

It was a great day... Jillian even napped for about an hour in the pack n' play in the afternoon... we let them stay up a little later than usual, I rocked Jillian and put her drowsy into the PNP and Matt into the crib they have set up in the upstairs hallway. They BOTH went right to sleep which should have made us pause (calm before the storm), but we just rejoiced and chalked it up to no nap, lots of fresh air and exercise.

At around 10:00, Jillian woke up SCREAMING... like full-out, hysterical, night-terror, absolutely *scared out of her skull* screaming. It took Mark and I an hour just to calm her down enough to strap her into her car seat and go home. (Matt slept through the entire thing less than 10 feet away). So anyway, there we were, driving home at 11:30 at night. We got home around 12:00, put Matt to bed (he was still sleeping), I rocked Jillian, gave her a sippy of water, put her to bed... terrified screaming resumed. Went in, rocked her, gave her some Motrin (she's been teething), more water, opened her windows more in case she was hot, yada, yada, yada... put her asleep in her crib... tiptoed out... ever-so-carefully closed the door... *just about* to climb into bed... she starts screaming again. Go back to her room, hang over the side of her crib rubbing her forehead for about a half an hour until she was asleep... or so I thought... Repeat steps above... you guessed it.

Anyway, fast-forward about two hours later, (in between which I was desperate and brought her down for a snack - which she didn't want) I gave up and brought her back down stairs and cuddled with her on the couch until we both fell asleep at around 3:00 or so.

And, to add insult to injury, because Matt slept through the whole freakin' thing... he was up at his normal time at around 6:30.

The "good news," if you can call it that, though, is that I think I figured out what was wrong... She pooped the biggest freakin' poop I have EVER seen come out of either of my kids. And 10 minutes later did it again! So I think maybe she was constipated and had a belly ache. Poor baby.

And I. am. so. tired.

Great way to start our "vacation" isn't it?

To repeat something Brian said a couple of days ago (we were talking to some friends, all of which have toddlers) "Are you sure you aren't talking about our house?" We leave on Wednesday for our vacation... sorry Dave and Sarah in advance:)

So sorry :( So, you headed back to the beach today? Supposed to be a great beach day. Maybe she'll be okay tonight without the "issue"?
