Okay, one of my "New Year's Resolutions" this year is to potty train Matt. This is something I'm absolutely dreading. I really think that Matt is ready, though, because, especially lately he's been telling us when he's pooping, a lot of times he'll even tell us when he's about to, and will then ask to sit on the potty (although by that time it's too late). Also, he doesn't tell us when he pees, but I can tell when he is because he holds on to the front of his diaper. Oh, and another thing... 9 times out of 10 he wakes up from his nap dry. So, I think he might be ready.
Anyway, here's my thing... I want your advice. How do I do this thing? I mean, how do you explain to a kid that he has to go in the potty? It's not like you just sit the kid down and say, "Pee," and he does. LOL. So give me your tips, tricks, things that work, things that don't work, advice, things not to do, etc.

Kel,
The only way is to put the potty out ,and take a whole day of having him wear no pants. IT works. Everyone I have told about it tries it and it works. For some reason kids won't just go if they have nothing on. I'm talking bear bummed, no pants or diper. We were frustrated training Aaron and I just took his pants and pull up off one day and he got this panicked look when he had to go because he had nothing on and he just jumped onto the potty and viola..it was great.
Sounds like a better project for warmer weather! Not a bad idea though.
We are more into the keep offering the potty and try to throw Payton on it when she cues that she has to poop. At daycare they are putting her on the potty every couple of hours. She just doesn't get that she needs to get on there before she goes in her diaper. I have talked to our pediatrician and she suggested to just keep on offering, and not stress too much about it. She will probably regress when the baby comes anyway, either that or she will really want to train herself. She may not want to be treated like the baby. We will see.
I have a good friend that did the bare butt thing. It is going okay... I don't think I have the stomach for it!
