Jillian is 5 days old today! Crazy! This week just flew by. :)
She's doing very well... with some minor daytime/nighttime confusion going on. We're working on that, though. The first night home she wouldn't fall asleep at all unless you were holding her. Granted, I certainly don't mind holding her, but Mark and I were VERY tired and only got about 2 hours of sleep that night because I was nervous about falling asleep with her in my arms. She fed really well, though, and my milk came in that morning around 4-ish. So that helped a little. Wednesday night, my parents came over and gave us the best possible gift... they brought over several bags of food from the Red Barn including tips, sausage, chicken, pasta, mozzarella salad and CANOLLI!! Yum! Then it got even better... my mom offered to sleep over and take care of Jillian so that Mark and I could get some sleep. She basically just got me up whenever Jillian needed to eat. She even made sure I had a glass of water at my side every time I fed Jillian. My mom is a saint - she got pretty much no sleep that night and had to work the next day. Thanks Mum! :)
Thursday was her first doctor's appointment with Dr. Harris... she was 6 lbs, 3.2 oz when she left the hospital on Tuesday. At the appointment, she had gained a little - 6 lbs, 4 oz. So that was good. :) She's still a little peanut though. I have her wearing preemie clothes right now. Dr. Harris said she looks great and we'll go back next week for another weight check.
After the appointment we had our first outing to Babies R Us. My mom made Jillian a "nest" the night before made of blankets and had her tightly swaddled and that seemed to make a little difference in her sleep that night, so we wanted to pick her up a sleep positioner and a swaddle blanket. It worked pretty well Thursday night, so yesterday we went back to BRU and got another positioner and 2 more swaddlers (in case of blowouts! LOL!).
The problem with her sleep is that she eats, we put her down in the crib and then it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to help her settle down. The sleep positioner seems to be helping with that... every night has gotten a little better. We had the opposite problem with Matt... he slept TOO well and would take forever to eat.
Other than that, she's peeing, pooping and eating like a champ. :)
Matt is doing fairly well with the baby, too. There are times you can tell that he's definitely looking for attention - throwing his toys in the trash, taking Jillian's pacifier, sitting in her bouncy chair and all around testing his boundaries. We're patient with him, though, because we know it must be a lot to handle at his age. We're working on "gentle" with him, too. But he's such a sweetheart, as you all well know. Yesterday Jillian started crying and Matt looked concerned so I told him that she was hungry... so he ran over and grabbed one of his Cheerios and tried to give it to the baby!! LOL!!
The good thing is that since Mark is home he's able to give him a little extra attention. Yesterday he took Matt outside and taught him how fun it is to run through the sprinkler and Tuesday they had a ball running around outside in the rain. :)
Okay, and one more thing... can I just say that Jackie is an amazing cook??? She made us an eggplant parmesan that is to DIE for! :) Jackie, hun, anytime you want to cook for us, feel free. ;-)
